The hair brush

The brush contains evidence in the form of hair fibres. Click for more information.

The brush contains limited evidence that can support an overwhelming case against one of the suspects. Hair fibres are dead structures that protrude from hair follicles at the surface of the skin. The actual hair fibre is of limited benefit to the forensic scientist. The fibre itself is made up of protein molecules bound tightly to form the hair. However a root hair has the DNA material to conduct DNA finger printing. Hair frequently falls out with the root attached and is trapped in combs.

Hair fibres with the root attached are very valuable. The root contains cells with DNA material.
