| Step 1 Place approximately 1 gram of powdered calcium carbonate in a crucible as shown above. Step 2. Place 50 ml of 0.1M HCl solution in a 100ml beaker and weigh the beaker and its contents. Record the reading on the balance. Step 3. Place the crucible with the powdered calcium carbonate on a digital balance. Record the reading on the balance. Step 4. Pour the 50 ml acid

| Step 5. Weigh the empty beaker. Step 6. Notice how the balance reading decreases as the carbon dioxide gas escapes. When the mass stabilises , record the reading on the balance. | |
