A polysacharide is a polymer made of many repeating monosacharide units. Starch for example can be classified as a polysacharide because it is formed from thousands of glucose molecules covalently bonded to each other. Glucose can not be considered as an option as it is a monosacharide (a single sugar molecule), while maltose is a disacharide (two carbohydrate molecules). Cellulose is a large polysacharide with extensive hydrogen bonding between the polymer chains. Click for a detailed explanation of cellulose and starch. |
