Living in a vacuum is harder than you think. Consider how you get about here on Earth. You push off the ground to propel yourself forward. When swimming you push water back to move forward while birds push air down in order to keep themselves up.

But how do we move about in space if we do not have a jet pack?

Interesting question, we simply don't. You can be 1 cm away from the door to your space craft and be totally stranded.
