Fun with circuits.

Step 1 Obtain a light globe that is not clear.

Step 2 Wearing protective gloves unscrew the glass globe from its socket. Be careful not to break the glass. Recover the socket

Step 3 Obtain two lithium button cell batteries as shown on the right. Stack the button cells together and secure them with ties or sticky tape. The batteries should connected in series, that is, negative to positive so that on end of the stack has a negative terminal and the other end has a positive.

Step 4 Cut three 4 cm long wires and remove the insulation from each end, as shown

Step 5 Solder one to the bottom of the socket, there should be some solder already there and the other to the side of the socket, again you will find some solder already there as well.

Step 6 Get a white, high intensity LED. Now solder the third wire to the positive end of the LED, that is the longer end of the LED as shown on the right.
Next solder the wire that is already connected to the base of the socket to the negative end of the LED.

Step 7 Connect the wire soldered to the side of the socket to the positive end of the batteries. Now connect the wire that is soldered to the positive terminal of the LED to the positive end of the battery, as shown.
Step 8 Place the batteries at the bottom of the socket and wrap the wires inside so that they are out of view. The LED should be coming out of the socket as shown on the right.

Step 9 Place the LED into the glass bulb and using a hot-glue gun secure the socket to the light bulb.

Step 10 Using a ring on your finger as a switch close the circuit so that the light glows.

Bedfore we master this trick lets look at the what makes this trick work.

1) What is an electrical circuit?

2) Two types of electrical circuits exist , parallel and series. What is the difference between them. Click to see useful link.

3) Define the terms current and voltage. Use a water pump as an analogy. Click for useful link.

Balance for charge by adding electrons tot he most positive side. Balance for hydrogen by adding Hydrogen ions to the hydrogen deficient side. Balance for oxygen by adding water to the oxygen deficient side. Balance for Ag atoms Balance for oxygen by adding water to the oxygen deficient side.
