Precipitation reactions - solutions

Aim - To observe a number of precipitation reactions and write the overall equation for each reaction.

Procedure- Mix 0.1M solutions of each of the following pair of compounds. Record your prediction of what the preicipitate will be (give the name of the precipitate and its formula). Write the overall equation for each reaction.

Compounds
Prediction
Lead nitrate and sodium carbonate
The overall equation = Pb(NO3)2(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) -> PbCO3(s) + 2NaNO3(aq)
Lead nitrate and Potassium iodide
The overall equation = Pb(NO3)2(aq) + 2KI(aq) -> PbI2(s) + 2KNO3(aq)
Silver nitrate and potassium iodide
The overall equation = AgNO3(aq) + KI(aq) -> AgI(s) + KNO3(aq)
Lead nitrate and potassium dichromate
The overall equation = Pb(NO3)2(aq) + K2Cr2O7(aq) -> PbCr2O7(s) + 2KNO3(aq)

Copper sulfate and barium chloride

The overall equation = CuSO4(aq) + BaCl2(aq) -> BaSO4(s) + CuCl2(aq)
Copper sulfate and sodium carbonate
The overall equation = CuSO4(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) -> Na2SO4(aq) + CuCO3(s)
Sodium chloride and silver nitrate
The overall equation = AgNO3(aq) + NaCl(aq) -> AgCl(s) + NaCl(aq)
Copper sulfate and lead nitrate
The overall equation = CuSO4(aq) + Pb(NO3)2 (aq) -> PbSO4(s) + Cu(NO3)2(aq)
